ABOUT ME

Qualifications:
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Registered Play Therapist and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I am licensed to counsel in the state of Texas through the Department of State Health Services. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. I earned my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from the CACREP accredited program at Texas State University.

Experience:
I have experience and training working with children, adolescents and adults. I have worked with individuals facing a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief & loss, behavioral concerns and trauma. I enjoy working collaboratively with clients and utilizing methods that best fit each individual’s needs. Underlying all techniques is the personal relationship built with clients.

Nature of Therapy:
As a registered play therapist, I utilize child- centered play therapy when working with children. This is an effective approach that allows children to process challenges and communicate using their natural language of play. Play materials are carefully selected to provide children with the tools of communication. As with adults, play therapy is a process in which children are given the opportunity to work through past or current difficulties.

I utilize techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy with adolescents and adults to help individuals address current thought patterns and develop positive coping skills. In addition to training and experience in a variety of therapeutic treatment modalities, I draw from my training as a certified yoga teacher. This includes incorporating mindfulness practices and breathing exercises into work with individuals of all ages.

When working with children and adolescents, I enjoy working closely with parents to address concerns and discuss strategies that can be implemented in the home. I have experience leading parenting groups using Child Parent Relationship Therapy as well as the Middle Way. Both of these groups provide parents the support of other parents as well as parenting tools and strategies.
